Springfield Massachusetts
The City of Springfield has played an important role throughout American history. Founded on New England's most fertile soil, next to one of America's most significant rivers, Springfield is located midway between New York City, Boston, Albany, and Montreal. In 1777, Springfield's prime location led George Washington and Henry Knox to found the United States' National Armory at Springfield. The Hartford-Springfield region is known as the Knowledge Corridor because it hosts over 160,000 university students and over 32 universities and liberal arts colleges.
The area is home to New England's largest and most popular amusement park, Six Flags New England. The park features roller-coasters, a large water park, kid's rides, ferris wheels, and a concert stadium, among numerous other attractions. The Eastern States Exposition ("The Big E") serves as the New England states' collective state fair. It is one of the largest agricultural fair in America; running each September–October. Visit the Cat in the Hat at the Dr. Seuss National Memorial or the Basketball Hall of Fame.
